On the Move!

A little over a month ago Jack started what we came to know as his "army crawl."  By now he's had enough practice that he's pretty quick - especially when properly motivated.
We've spent a lot of time working on getting his belly off the ground for a real crawl. He's good about getting up on his hands and knees when stationary, but when it's time to move he drops and goes back to the army crawl.
Don't let this reluctance to crawl fool you, though. This little boy is on the move! Jack can now slide himself off the couch and scoot along the edge from one end to the other.  Now he's trying to get hold of the coffee table to pull up. And what new trick did he come up with this weekend? Check this out.
Look out world,  here comes Jack!

Wednesday!

Have you ever seen the YouTube video of the guy who took a picture of his face everyday for over a year and then edited them into a video and set it to music? It's neat to see (in fast forward) how he changed over time and how little changes that seem insignificant day to day make a big difference over time. After seeing the video I was inspired to do something similar for Jack. So every Wednesday (since he was born on a Wednesday) we take his picture.  My plan is to keep it up for a year. So here is the 30th installment of our weekly photo session.

Catching Up

27 weeks

Once we came home from our visit to Texas and Scout Camp we've been busy at home! GeeGee came for a visit, we celebrated the 4th of July, made a trip to Jackson, and watched a little boy grow!

It's hard to believe it's already July! What a fun summer it's been so far!

Where the Wild Things Are

While we were in Tyler we took Jack to the zoo for he first time. Caldwell Zoo is the best! I loved going there as a child and it was such fun to take Jack. It was even better than I remembered. We saw all sorts of animals . . .

In between all the nifty animals we had fun hanging out with GeeGee, Mimi, and Granddaddy.

We even made our first trip to the petting zoo for a picture. We kept our distance from the goats, though. Let's just say I am NOT a fan of goats after a traumatic petting zoo experience as a child. But I managed to make it long enough for a picture to record the occasion.
We had so much fun it wore a little boy completely out! This is definitely the way to do the zoo on a hot summer day, by the way - wheels, a sunshade, and a fan.
We even brought home some of the fun with us - SOUVENIERS!

Daddy!

I'm a tad late getting these posts up. I had good intentions but the last few weeks have been busy! It all started on Father's Day . . .
Daddy had to take the Boy Scouts to camp for the week and he left on Father's Day. We were still able to have a special breakfast before he left, though, Do you see that smile on Jack's face? He sure does love his Daddy!  No one else is as much fun to play with as Daddy and no one makes him laugh as hard either!

While Daddy took the Scouts to camp we went to Texas!  While we were there we got to spend lots of time with Papa.
We had fun taking pizza and spending a day with Papaw and Mammaw.

We also had fun with Granddaddy and Mimi, including a trip to the zoo (more to come soon!)
What a fun time we had with all our daddies!

Time Flies . . .

. . . and we have certainly had TONS of FUN with this handsome fella for the last 6 months!
At 6  months old, Jack weighs 18.8 pounds and is somewhere between 28 and 29 inches long (can't be quite sure as someone was feeling wiggly and the tape measure was awfully fun to play with). He's graduated to 6-9 month sizes in everything except pants. Although he's growing everywhere else, the boy has no behind and that makes holding up your britches a little hard.  He sleeps about 9-10 hours straight at night and naps well during the day, sometimes 2 long naps and sometimes 3 or 4 shorter naps.
I think we're working on some teeth since he gnaws on EVERYTHING that comes anywhere close to his mouth and drools constantly. He loves to have his gums rubbed but no sign of little teeth just yet.

Have I mentioned that Jack LOVES to eat? He certainly does.  He started rice cereal around Easter and in the last 2 weeks has started some veggies. So far he's a big fan of sweet potatoes and carrots, but not so much English peas (not that I blame him). He also loved sucking on a piece of cantaloupe someone let him try.  Best of all, though, was that little taste of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream someone put on his tongue (it was a half birthday, we had to celebrate!)
Jack is ALWAYS on the move now! He is rolling over both ways now and will roll himself all the way across the floor. Occasionally I catch him pushing up on his arms to Army crawl or getting his knees under up him, but he's not quite crawling yet. Jack's favorite spot now is in his jumperoo. He will spend hours bouncing up and down and up and down.  He's very in to reaching and grabbing things too. If it's in arms reach, it's fair game.  That includes the dogs who have started to grab his attention lately. He can sit up on his own totally unsupported for a minute or two before he gets wobbly. With a little support he can sit up for a longer time
Jack is the happiest baby I have ever been around. He cries when he's hungry and I'm too slow fixing dinner to suit him (I want to eat NOW!) and when he gets tired but doesn't want to sleep.  Other than that he's always in a good mood. He loves to meet new people and to play with his friends at daycare.  He has the sweetest smile to come home to everyday.

What a wonderful 6 months it has been!
